Several inches of snow blanketed the ground. It was the kind of peaceful and fluffy snow read about in books. No wind, untouched ground, perfect for a walk.

The playground at Grant Elementary School provided a swing set, completely covered in snow. It was a scene I had seen in my head several times, but had never been able to capture, until now! The dusk lighting provided a perfect contrast to the scene, with the lights of several houses quietly illuminating the background.
As I painted this image, I was struck with several metaphors for the image leading to the title, “Recess Is Over.” Too cold to play outside, metaphors for time and age, I’ll let you determine what you feel when you take it in.
Despite its simplicity, this piece has been, by far, my most talked about painting.
